The Escondido Fire Department is proud to be part of the Salvation Army’s All-Star Bell Ringing Team this coming Friday, December 6, 2013 outside the Major Market grocery store, 1855 South Centre City Parkway, Escondido. The All-Star Bell Ringers will be at this location from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and feature members of the San Diego Gulls Ice Hockey Team, Miss Escondido and Miss Teen Escondido, a Batman Impersonator, the President of San Diego Car Care, and our very own Escondido Fire Department Division Chief Herb Griffin and Battalion Chief Gary Correiar. One bell ringing shift (two hours) by each of these community All-Stars provides two nights of shelter and four warm meals for the men, women, and children who come to the Salvation Army for assistance this Christmas season.
For more than 120 years The Salvation Army has been delivering services and hope to the less fortunate on the streets of San Diego and to those in shelters, schools, and daycare centers across the region. Internationally, it is an organization with a lineage of public service that dates back to 1865, and has evolved over the decades into a social service provider known for its charity and dedication to others. The Salvation Army currently has representation in 120 different countries worldwide, in addition to nearly 8,000 centers of operation across the United States.
“I am honored to assist the Salvation Army with their efforts in making a difference in our community,” says Fire Chief Michael Lowry.
