On Friday evening January 11th, the Escondido Fire Department received a report of a fire in a single family home. The first fire engine arrived five minutes after the dispatch to find fire showing from three sides of the home, and posing an immediate threat to an adjacent home. The residents of the fire home were able to escape from the home without injury. A shed in the backyard of the adjacent home was destroyed while the paint and fascia of that home sustained some heat damage . The home where the fire began was a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Red Cross was requested and assisted the family displaced by the fire. Twenty one firefighters assisted with the control this fire, while two fire engines from neighboring Fire Departments temporarily staffed empty Escondido Fire Stations. Escondido firefighters were on this scene for approximately two hours. One firefighter suffered an injury to his ankle and was transported to Palomar Hospital.
