Midway Fire 10/04/2024 @ 4:15 pm
At 4:15 pm North Comm Dispatch Center began receiving reports of an apartment fire at 260 N Midway. A first alarm fire response was dispatched. The first responding Company Officer reported a large column of smoke from a distance and requested a second alarm.
Units arrived on scene and found 4 apartment units on fire with the potential to spread to more. Over the course of the next 2 hours the firefighters were able to contain the fire to the original 4 units and stop the spread to rest of the building. The 8 units that were not destroyed by fire did suffer smoke and water damage making the entire building uninhabitable.
In all 17 adults and 6 children were displaced by the fire. The Red Cross assisted multiple families find temporary housing. One person was transported from the fire with smoke inhalation in stable condition.
Firefighters from Escondido, San Marcos, Vista, Valley Center, Rancho Santa Fe and Carlsbad all worked together to extinguish and overhaul the fire.
