FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Contact Battalion Chief Britt Matthews (760) 560-7432
On November 13, 2024, at 9:56 PM, units from the Escondido Fire Department were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire at the corner of East 17th Avenue and Lendee Drive. The first Engine Company to arrive found a well-involved garage fire, with multiple sheds and outbuildings also burning.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a large portion of the fire; however, large quantities of flammable material in the garage caused an intense fire that was difficult to access. Firefighters remained on the scene for nearly 2 ½ hours, performing salvage and overhaul operations. The fire was limited to the garage, a small attached apartment, and storage buildings. The main living area of the home sustained minimal smoke damage.
No civilians or Firefighters were injured during the incident. Additional assistance was provided by Escondido Police Department, San Diego County Sheriff’s, and SDG&E. Escondido Fire Investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
