Contact: Battalion Chief Andre Paredes (760)522-0516

On October 1, 2020 at 3:06 PM, the Escondido Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vegetation fire at Bear Valley Parkway and Royal Crest Drive. The first arriving unit reported a 100’ by 100’ area of burning vegetation. With the proximity of the fire to structures a second alarm was requested.

California Highway Patrol, Escondido Police and San Diego Sheriff units assisted with the full closure of Bear Valley Parkway for two hours to ensure the safety of fire crews that were working along the roadway.
The fire was contained to approximately one-quarter acre within 40 minutes and fire crews worked for another hour mopping up all hot spots.

Fire Investigators responded and the cause of the fire is under investigation. No homes were damaged; however, a palapa, fence and garden trellis were damaged from the fire.

There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
