Junior Firefighter's Program For Teachers, Parents, & Community Group Leaders

The Escondido Fire Department’s Jr. Firefighter Safety School Curriculum is a great way for teachers, parents, and community groups to teach children the importance of fire safety and accident prevention. The fire safety material is part of the National Fire Protection Agency’s “Learn Not to Burn®” program. The program contains age appropriate lesson plans and activities for teachers, parents, care givers, and group leaders. The Level 1 material should be taught annually and reviewed regularly with your students. Through repetition and regular review, the aim is to help students better retain the important lessons contained within this program.  The program is also meant to be a compliment to fire station tours and classroom visits.  By completing and reviewing the lessons prior to fire station tours or classroom visits, firefighters will be better able to reinforce the key concepts contained in this program. If you have questions or would like to schedule a tour for your school or community group, the Escondido Fire Department Adopt-a School Program coordinator can be reached at 760-839-5420 or email.

Pre-School & Kindergarten–Fire Safety & Burn Prevention

Because children under the age of five are almost one and a half times as likely to die in a home fire as the average person, NFPA created the Learn Not to Burn® Preschool Program. The Learn Not to Burn Preschool Program lessons are most appropriate for 4- and 5-year-old children, but they are also appropriate for children in kindergarten.
