Oak Fire

April 3, 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact Battalion Chief Tyler Batson (760)522-0516

On April 3, 2023 at approximately 8:17 a.m., the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received reports of a residential structure fire located at 1380 Oak Hill Drive, #56. Units responding noticed smoke showing in the distance and requested a working fire upgrade for additional resources. The first arriving engine reported a working structure fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from a single family, mobile home residence.

Aggressive action by the firefighters contained the fire to the fully involved unit, preventing additional fire spread to the surrounding exposed mobile homes. Heavy fire activity and significant fuel loading required extensive overhaul to ensure the fire was completely extinguished. Crews spent several hours overhauling the area.

In all, twenty-eight firefighters and one fire prevention specialist responded to the fire. EPD conducted traffic control and crowd safety, and SDGE was dispatched to address utilities. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The Red Cross responded to assist the residents, and their dog, with short term housing, and a $250 “SAVE” gift card was provided to the family on behalf of the California Fire Foundation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Safety Message: Working smoke and CO detectors are essential for safe, early detection of fire in all homes, especially mobile homes.
