FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Contact Battalion Chief Jeff Sargis (760) 705-7122

On April 8, 2019 at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received a report of a fire in the garage of a home in the area of the 800 block of Calle Montera and dispatched a structure fire response. While responding, several fire units reported that smoke was visible from a distance and a working fire upgrade to the response was requested. The first arriving fire engine reported a two story, single-family residence with heavy fire and smoke coming from the garage.

Aggressive action by the firefighters contained and controlled the fire in approximately 20 minutes. The garage sustained extensive fire damage but firefighters were able to contain the fire to the garage without spread into the structure. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians, in all 4 fire engines, 1 truck company, 1 rescue ambulance and 2 Battalion Chiefs responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Safety note**** Make sure to install and maintain all smoke detectors.
