On October 24, 2018 at approximately 06:00 a.m., the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received a report of a possible fire in the area of the 300 block of Alder Pl. A structure fire response was dispatched to the area and it was later found that actual address was in the 1200 block of Joshua St. The first arriving engine reported a large amount of both fire and smoke coming from the rear of a single-family residence. Due to the potential for the fire to spread and the threat to life and property, a working fire upgrade was requested.
Aggressive action by the firefighters contained and controlled the fire in approximately 20 minutes. The home sustained extensive fire damage as well as moderate smoke damage throughout the dwelling. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians however, 4 dogs and 3 pet birds died from smoke inhalation. In all 4 fire engines, 1 truck company, 1 rescue ambulance and 2 Battalion Chiefs responded to the fire.
Safety note**** Make sure to install and maintain all smoke detectors.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
