Alexander Fire

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact Battalion Chief Tyler Batson (760)522-0516

On June 15, 2023 at approximately 2:29 a.m., the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received reports of a residential structure fire with victims trapped located at 2448 Alexander Drive. Units responding observed heavy smoke showing from a distance and requested additional resources including an additional ambulance for the known victim.

When Firefighters arrived on scene, they began treatment for a male resident with serious burn injuries. Firefighters learned that a female resident was still trapped inside the burning home and began search and rescue operations in addition to attacking the heavy smoke and flames.

Firefighters made forcible entry into the home and removed an adult female victim in critical condition. Immediate life-saving measures were initiated by paramedics. Both patients were transported to hospitals by ambulance, one to Palomar Hospital and one to the UCSD Burn Center. Unfortunately, the female victim did not survive her injuries.

Due to the well-established fire, the residence began to suffer structural collapse and the incident commander made the decision to employ a defensive strategy using exterior hose lines and the aerial ladder to protect neighboring structures from heat and flames

In all, nearly 40 firefighters and one fire prevention specialist responded to the fire. San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies conducted traffic and crowd control. SDGE responded to ensure power lines were de-energized and the home’s utilities were secured.

Because the location of the fire is in the unincorporated area of the County, San Diego County Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson will be conducting the fire cause investigation.

Safety message: Please ensure that there are smoke detectors in every major room of your residence.
