The Escondido Fire Department Explorer Post is a career-oriented youth program chartered through the Boy Scouts of America, active since 1981.
The purpose of the Escondido Fire Department Explorer Post is to expose young people to the various aspects of the fire service while developing character, morals, values and a sense of responsibility.
The Post is comprised of up to 25 Explorer Scouts, divided into two platoons. There are three Scout Officers. The Post is overseen by Explorer Advisors from the Fire Department with overall direction from the Fire Chief.
The Post meets once a month, usually on a Saturday. The Scouts must be available between the hours of 0830 and 1700 hours. Ride-alongs on engine companies, after approval of Post Advisor, will be scheduled by the student. Extra days above the required Saturday may occur from time to time. The Explorer Post must be a PRIORITY in the Scout’s life.
Initially, the uniform may cost up to $200. There is an annual $10 Boy Scout re-charter fee. The Post may also request an annual $20 membership fee.
Minimum age is 15 years and eighth grade graduate. Maximum age is 21 years.
Applicants may have to pass the following to be selected as a member of the Post:
- Physical Agility / Ability Test
- Written Exam
- Oral Interview
An application, which can be obtained at Fire Administration on the third floor of the Police and Fire Headquarters at 1163 North Centre City Parkway, must be fully completed and returned in order to be considered for membership. Applications are also available online.
Applications are kept on file until our next recruitment. When the recruitment process begins, candidates will be notified of the test schedule and location.
