April 14 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Contact Battalion Chief Britt Matthews (760) 560- 7432

On April 13, 2024 at approximately 5:00 PM, the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received a report of a residential structure fire on Lee Drive in Escondido. The first arriving Engine Company reported heavy smoke from the garage and attic. Further investigation revealed a well-established fire in the attached garage with smoke throughout the living space and attic.

Aggressive firefighting contained the fire to the garage. Although the primary living space was undamaged, damage to gas and electrical service in the garage required disconnection of all utilities to the home. Firefighters remained on scene for approximately 1 hour performing smoke removal, salvage, and overhaul of the garage contents.

Two adults and a dog were displaced due to the fire and are being assisted with lodging by the American Red Cross. The residents received a SAVE card provided by California Fire Foundation to assist with immediate needs.

19 Firefighters responded to the incident. Escondido Police Officers assisted with traffic control. SDG&E responded to secure gas and electric services. No Firefighters or civilians were injured during the incident.
