On December 31, 2023 at approximately 2:07 p.m., the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received reports of a multi-residential structure fire located at the Reidy Creek Apartments, 1343 Morning View Drive #326. Responding units observed smoke showing from the area and a working fire upgrade was added for additional resources. The first arriving engine confirmed heavy smoke from fire activity showing from the indicated apartment unit.

One particular room was heavily involved in fire activity and the apartment unit suffered significant smoke damage throughout. Electrical and gas utilities were secured to safely extinguish the fire and prevent further hazards. Neighboring apartments incurred some minor damage from water seeping from the main fire occupancy.

In all, eighteen firefighters and one fire prevention specialist responded to the fire. EPD conducted traffic control and ensured safety to neighboring residents and bystanders. SDGE was dispatched to address electrical and gas service. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The Red Cross provided temporary lodging for the displaced residents including two adults, one child, and one pet, and a $250 “SAFER” gift card was provided on behalf of the California Fire Foundation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
